Dick Glasgow

For over fifteen years Dick has taught Traditional Music in a number of schools throughout the North Coast area, from Glenarm to Castlerock. As well as providing tuition to individual pupils or small groups he can also teach tin whistle to whole classes from P4 upwards. His aim is to encourage children to enjoy learning to play music, so in the early stages he makes it as easy as possible for them to learn the notes required to play simple tunes including nursery rhymes and popular tunes from film and tv. To this end, he avoids confusing them with staff notation and children simply learn each note by its letter, as they need it.

Dick has lived in North Antrim for over 20 years but as a Scot who grew up in a musical home, he has played Scottish and Irish Traditional Music for over 40 years. He ran his own Music School in Ballycastle for a number of years before turning to music tuition in schools, full time. He was awarded the TTCT (Traditional Music Teacher Certificate) and has been teaching fiddle and tin whistle for the Ullans Speakers Association in Ballymoney for over two years. His group, ‘Scad the Beggar’ regularly perform Scottish, Ulster and Irish music and song for the Ullans Group and Ulster-Scots Agency at various events. Dick also performs Medieval music in costume at a variety of heritage events throughout the year.
