Ditch the Dark Day

16 November 2017

As part of the Sustrans Active School Travel Programme we are holding a special cycle, scoot and walk to school day on:

FRIDAY 17TH NOVEMBER

Ditch the Dark Day!

The theme of the day is Be Bright, Be Seen. To raise awareness of safe travel to school as the days become darker, we are encouraging children to cycle, scoot or walk to school looking as bright and shiny as possible!

Children are invited to get creative with their outfits and even to decorate their bikes and scooters to be super bright. The possibilities are endless – bright clothing, bike lights, glow sticks, a helmet wrapped in aluminum foil, fluorescent orange socks, a pink tutu, a neon green wig – get bright, brighter, brightest!

In the interest of safety, we always advise children to wear helmets and high visibility clothing so that they can be seen and be safe on the way to school. If it is a dull or dark day, bicycle lights are strongly advised. Please ensure decorations do not interfere with safety of the bicycle/scooter.

You are more than welcome to join the fun and cycle or walk to school as well – perhaps in your brightest outfit!
