*Important information about return to school for Nursery to Primary 3 pupils*

26 March 2021

Hello parents,

We are so excited about our Nursery to Primary 3 pupils returning to school on Monday 8th March! Here are a few key points about school dinners, timings and PE days to remind everyone.

School dinners will resume from Monday 8th March to Friday 19th March for pupils in Nursery to Primary 3, with the exception of Wednesday 17th March. The dinner menu has been uploaded onto ParentPay to allow parents to book online. School dinners cost £2.50 for Nursery pupils and £2.60 for Primary pupils. We would encourage parents to book their child's dinner online, if possible. Free School Meal dinners should also be booked online but no payment will be charged. Please find below the dinner menu for the week beginning 8th March:

  • Monday 8th March dinner menu - Fish fingers, beans, sweetcorn, chips followed by fruit and biscuit
  • Tuesday 9th March dinner menu - Chicken curry, boiled rice, naan bread & garden peas followed by jelly and fruit
  • Wednesday 10th March dinner menu - Pasta bolognese, carrot batons & crusty bread followed by yoghurt & fruit
  • Thursday 11th March dinner menu - Roast chicken, cabbage, diced carrots, mashed potato & gravy followed by fresh fruit and frozen yoghurt
  • Friday 12th March dinner menu - Steak burger in bap, salad, coleslaw & homemade spiced cubed potatoes followed by chocolate & pear sponge & chocolate sauce

Here are a few details about the return to school for each class:

Nursery pupils (8.45am - 1.15pm)

  • Pupils in Nursery should attend school from Monday 8th March to Friday 19th March. Please note that school will be closed on Wednesday 17th March for St Patrick's Day. Nursery starts at 8.45am and finishes at 1.15pm.
  • Nursery pupils should enter the Nursery via the main Nursery door. A member of the Nursery team will meet you and your child at the Nursery door.
  • Mrs Lindsay will be off school for a short period of time and the Nursery class will be taught by Mrs Blackstock. Mrs Blackstock is an experienced teacher and she has taught the Nursery class before. Mrs Blackstock has kindly made a short video to reintroduce herself to the class. The video will be sent via Seesaw.
  • Mrs Thompson is also currently absent from school. Miss Scott who is a trained teacher will be covering Mrs Thompson's nursery assistant role until Mrs Thompson returns.
  • Miss Young who was working as special needs classroom assistant in Nursery has now got a teaching job in another school. Therefore Mrs Johnston who is also a trained teacher will be covering the special needs classroom assistant role in the Nursery.
  • Mrs Taylor will also be supporting the Nursery staff in the return to school.

Primary 1 (8.50am - 1.55pm)

  • Pupils in Primary 1 should attend school from Monday 8th March to Friday 19th March. Please note that school will be closed on Wednesday 17th March for St Patrick's Day. Primary 1 starts at 8.50am and finishes at 1.55pm each day. Please enter school via the normal door in the Junior playground.
  • Mrs Strong will be continuing to take the Primary 1 class. It is anticipated that Mrs Simpson will be returning from maternity leave on Tuesday 4th May to take the Primary 1 class. Mrs Simpson will team teach with Mrs Strong over a number of days across March and April to get to know the Primary 1 pupils before she returns to school.
  • Mrs Strong's class will have PE on a Monday and a Friday as usual. Pupils in P1 should therefore wear their PE kit to school on Monday's and Friday's.
  • Mrs Strong has asked me to remind parents to bring a change of clothes into school to hang on their peg (if your child has a toileting accident) and a pair of wellies would be very useful for outdoor learning.

Primary 2 (8.45am - 1.50pm)

  • Pupils in Primary 2 should attend school from Monday 8th March to Friday 19th March. Please note that school will be closed on Wednesday 17th March for St Patrick's Day. Primary 2 starts at 8.45am and finishes at 1.50pm each day. Please enter school via the normal door at the Queenora entrance.
  • Miss Gilmore's class will have PE on a Wednesday and a Friday as usual. Pupils in P2 should therefore wear their PE kit to school on Wednesday's and Friday's.

Primary 3 (8.50am - 1.55pm) - except on a Thursday when pupils finish at 2.55pm

  • Pupils in Primary 3 should attend school from Monday 8th March to Friday 19th March. Please note that school will be closed on Wednesday 17th March for St Patrick's Day. Primary 3 starts at 8.50am and finishes at 1.55pm. On a Thursday pupils in P3 will finish at 2.55pm. Please enter school via the normal door at the P3 fire escape door.
  • Miss McCurdy's class will have PE on a Tuesday and a Thursday as usual. Pupils in P3 should therefore wear their PE kit to school on Tuesday's and Thursday's.
  • Miss McCurdy has asked me to remind parents that it is useful if pupils could bring a water bottle to school each day.

Supervision between 2pm and 3pm

If you have a child in Primary 1 to Primary 3 and you also have another child in P4-P7 attending school as a key worker or vulnerable child and you wish for your child in P1 - P3 to stay in school between 2pm and 3pm please contact Stepping Stones afterschool provider. Stepping Stones can arrange childcare for you between 2pm - 3pm.

Stepping Stones afterschool club provision

Stepping Stones afterschool club provision will open on Monday 8th March. If you wish to avail of this service from 2pm to 5.45pm please contact Stepping Stones directly.

It would be beneficial if parents who normally use Stepping Stones as an afterschool provider could indicate to Stepping Stones as soon as possible if you intend to use the service. Then if spaces become available other children who wish to use the service could be offered a space. Stepping Stones telephone number is 028 70833200.

We are really looking forward to seeing all our Nursery, P1, P2 and P3 pupils back in school on Monday 8th March! If your child has any anxiety or worries about starting school again please contact your child's class teacher or Mrs Taylor so that we can best support you and your child on their return to school.

Many thanks,

Mrs Taylor
