AQE registration for P6 pupils wishing to sit the transfer test

11 September 2022

Dear P6 parents and carers,

Applications for Registration for AQE

The online portal through which parents can apply to register their children for the assessments will open on Wednesday 4th May 2022 at 10am and close on Friday 23rd September 2022 at 4pm. Hard copy application forms will be available to download and print from the same date.  The cost of the assessments will remain unchanged from 2021/2022 at £60 (£30 of which is non-refundable).

The application for registration portal will open on Wednesday 4th May 2022 at 10am via the AQE website. Please note that registration can be completed anytime up to Friday 23rd September at 4pm so there is no rush to complete registration now.

Parents should have access to the following when applying for registration:

  • A photograph of the candidate (taken recently from the shoulders up with eye’s visible) this should be saved onto the device from which you will complete the application.
  • An electronic copy of the candidate’s birth certificate (long or short version) or passport. This can be a scanned copy or a very clear photograph with nothing in the background, where the information can be read easily.

And either:

  • An electronic copy of the confirmation of entitlement to Free School Meals for the candidate (from the EA or Primary School) or
  • A five digit order code from your payment of the Registration Fee (£60). The payment portal for the registration fee is now live (Online Payments) for anyone who wishes to pay in advance of applications opening on Wednesday 4th May. Please note that depending on your bank, payments may need to be authorised via your chosen method, with the bank so please be prepared for this.

For candidates who require reasonable adjustments to be made for the assessments, parents/guardians should consult the ‘Access Arrangements’ section of our website where you will find all the essential information including application forms and Guidance Notes. Please note that this process is separate from the registration process and will need to be completed in hard copy, not online, after an application for registration has been submitted.

AQE Assessment Dates and Format

The three assessments will take place on the following Saturdays at 10am:

  • 19th November 2022
  • 26th November 2022
  • 3rd December 2022

A provisional date for the issue of results will be Saturday 4th February 2023.

To take account of the considerable disruption caused by Covid-19 to children’s education over the past two years, the mitigation arrangements put in place for the 2021/22 assessment will remain the same for this year.

  • Pupils will be given an extra 10 minutes to complete each paper (ie.70 minutes instead of 60 minutes).
  • The language within the English and Maths questions will be made more accessible.
  • The length of the English passages will be shortened where appropriate.
  • Certain topic areas will be omitted from the Mathematics Specification.

Further information on these changes are available here.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs K Taylor
